Summer Camp Drive Up and Campsite Instructions

Posted on Jul 6 2019 - 12:53pm

For the drive up to Camp Sequassen on Sunday (July 7th), we will meet at the firehouse at 10:45 AM and arrive at Camp at 12:30.  Parents will drive their own scouts to the camp. If you have made arrangements to carpool with another family, please let me know when we meet on Sunday so we can make sure that everyone is accounted for - understand that if there is a problem with initial registration,  you may have to come up anyway!
A packing list is attached. It is best to put your gear in a waterproof box - a Stanley Tool Box on wheels (or similar) works best.
Before we leave the firehouse, I will collect any medication that needs to be checked-in with the medical center.  Please have medication in quart-sized ziploc bags with your scout's name, troop (62), and campsite (Loyalty) labeled on the outside. The boys should be in Class A uniform with all of the pieces for the drive up.  They should remember to bring a hanger so they can hang it up when they get changed which they can do as soon as they get to camp (we have them wear the Class A up to make sure they have it with them, and it looks nice to show up in uniform).

For lunch, on the way up, there is a Burger King at exit 44 from Rt 8 (451 E Main St, Torrington), however, there are other restaurants at that same exit including Subway (867 E Main St, Torrington).  Also, at exit 46, the Sequassen exit, there is a hot dog stand (Kurt’s hotdogs) that I will try out this year.
The address for the Camp Sequassen is 791 W Hill Rd, New Hartford, CT.  When you arrive at the camp, park in the main lot and start to unload (the camp staff will typically be there to direct you).  Our campsite is Loyalty. You can head there as soon as you unload your car. Attached is a camp map. It would be helpful if parents could stick around until I confirm that we are checked-in just in case we need a last-minute signature or something.

Troop eblast will be shut down for the summer

Posted on Jun 19 2019 - 6:12pm

The weekly eblast will be shut down for the summer. Eblasts will be sent for special announcements (e.g. Summer Camp instructions etc)

We wish all families a good summer. See you all in the Fall.

Troop Committee Roles

Posted on Jun 19 2019 - 6:09pm

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill 2 adult roles within the Troop Committee. Troop Secretary and Apparel Coordinator. The Troop Secretary takes the minutes at the monthly Troop Committee meeting and helps with the communication within the troop. The Apparel Coordinator keeps the inventory of Troop apparel (neckerchiefs, T shirts, Sweat shirts) and orders new ones as needed. If you are interested in helping with either of these roles please contact Claire Pearson at committeechair@cttroop62.org.

Tag Sale - Thank You!!

Posted on Jun 16 2019 - 4:30pm

Thank you to everyone who worked hard on Saturday to make our tag sale a success! Due to your outstanding efforts, the Troop met its goal of raising enough money to fund our share of the purchase of a new Troop trailer. The remainder of the trailer's cost will be generously donated by our charter organization, Stepney Volunteer Fire Company -- we are especially grateful for their continued support! It is always wonderful to see our Troop families come together and pitch in when needed and our Scouts, along with their parents and even some of their siblings, did an excellent job from start to finish. Special thanks to Mrs. Dilks-Anderson for her tireless deal-making and work as "head cashier" and to Mr. Rob Butler (Chris's dad), for stepping up and accepting the role as our new Tag Sale Coordinator!! We look forward to continuing this successful Troop 62 fundraiser next year and beyond.
